Women, how do we get it all done?

Women are amazing! Every year Sheer Bliss is privileged to be welcomed into the workplace, events and small parties celebrating women in all of their magnificent glory. Our business is all about girl power and helping our team see their own potential. I started this business wanting to create a space where women could work, learn and still have time to live. As the years have gone on, I have caught myself asking where the time goes? I run two businesses, I have two beautiful daughters, I am learning a new language, participating in an online learnership with the African Women’s Entrepreneurship Co-operative, I volunteer in my community and when I am not doing any of the above, I deliver babies – for fun! So how do we do it?  Every woman can relate to having a full plate in general but we all manage to do it! Run a home, raise a family and grow a career. Here are a few tips that I would like to share on how I do my best to not drop the ball.

Lists

I cannot survive without lists. Knowing what my priorities for each day are and the satisfaction that I get from crossing a task off a list is hard to put into words.  Before I leave the office each day, I write my lists for the following day. More often than not, I remember other items after I have left the office, when I am driving (this is a real thing, it is called a brain blink) – when this happens, I simply email myself so that I can add them to my list the next day.

Automate, Delegate, Procrastinate

Watch this TED Talk and use this funnel. Taking the time to automate payments, invoices, recurring calendar events and using a digital task list will be an investment of time upfront and save you many precious hours. Finding providers who can take debit order payments will give you so much more time that you can even comprehend.

Delegating is a difficult one for many women and I am sure even harder for moms! In the workplace however, this can grow a business and change the way you work every day. If you are able to delegate time consuming tasks, you will see how quickly you can move onto the more important work, that really feeds your productivity. Ask My P.A. assists anyone and everyone with their to do lists,  this means you can concentrate on the fun and important stuff while your tasks are taken care of.

Delegating at home is a must too.  Let go a little, let someone else cook dinner, do the shopping and in South Africa we really are spoiled with domestic help on hand.

Yes, I said it, procrastinate. Not everything is urgent.  It might be important but knowing the difference will streamline your day. If you can focus on what is most urgent first you might find that you can procrastinate other items until they go into the funnel again.  Can I automate it? Can I delegate it? Do I need to do it now or is there something more urgent for right now? If not then get it done.

Take Care of YOU!

You cannot give if your cup is empty. Take the time out to go to gym, wake up early and meditate, get enough rest and eat good nutritious food and have a massage. You need to make sure that you are looking after yourself or you will burn out.  We all say it and not all of us do it. In our office it is compulsory for everyone to have a massage once a month. The difference this has made to our team is phenomenal! We all need a rest and the human touch is priceless.

Go Easy on Yourself

We all drop the ball sometimes, it is not the end of the world. At the end of the day when it comes down to it, while work is important and we are working on deadlines, the truth is that you are probably making every effort to meet your deadlines and beating yourself up along the way won’t help anyone. If you are feeling stressed, take the time to recognize that and decide if it is coming from a productive space that is helping you get the tasks done and if not, then let it go.

Remember What Motivates You

It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut, you might find yourself wondering what it’s all for but we are building –  building a home, guiding our children, building a career, or a business or working our way up in a company.  Keep your purpose in mind. It’s easy to give up if you have no purpose but once you find what really rewards you, as the cliche goes: If you do what you love, you will never have to work a day in your life.

Happy Women’s Day to all the ladies out there, we hope you take some time to give yourself a pat on the back and if you would like some help with that then we are here to help with any of our awesome massages!
